Have you ever had one of those moments when you felt like you were going back in time? You might have seen something that triggered a memory, I had such an experience yesterday.
Whatca up to right now, not driving I hope. I’m enjoying a cool glass of orange juice and reminiscing, why don’t you pull up a chair and grab something tasty to drink. I just need a few minutes of your time.
As I was cleaning my desk, I ran across a picture of my son when he two years old. Wow, where does the time go? He’s now eleven years old and too old for me to pinch him on the cheeks.
Looking at that picture, I was transported back in time and thought about how much time I spent with my children when they were younger.
The sad truth is I didn’t spend much time with them, I was too busy growing my bread business, only getting three hours of sleep a night.
I told myself that even though I wasn’t spending much time with them, I was taking care of business, they would “get it” when they were older. I now realize more than ever, time is one resource you never get back.
Time to get real
If I’m going to be honest with you, most of my life I’ve been chasing money. I told myself once I got it, I could finally have freedom and spend more time with my family. I lived out that lie for far too long.
Now I’m in a position where we have a little money and you know what, it isn’t everything I thought it would be. Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for what my Lord has provided and I know the bills have to be paid.
The one thing I’m realizing more and more is what I really need and it goes way beyond money. The freedom that I now experience is priceless, being able to wake up and make breakfast for my kids is priceless.
The freedom to work with amazing people and even help as many people as I want for free is priceless. What I’ve come to realize is all I really need is enough money to survive, enough money to keep that freedom so I can live life on my own terms.
I’m not going to chase money anymore, I’m going to focus on freedom and what freedom brings, that precious time with my family.
What’s important to your life?
Have you chased money? In doing so, what have you missed out on? What would it really take for you to survive and have freedom? What does freedom look like for you and what will it make possible? A few questions to think about but if I can help one person avoid the regret I have now, this post will be worth it.
Time is something we’ll never get back, we have to treat every moment with the respect it deserves.
I understand you still have to do the work, especially if you have a day job. It’s definitely going to require some sacrifice but don’t sacrifice the really important things and moments you can’t get back.
No matter where you’re at right now, do a little evaluation and just make sure you’re doing what’s right for you. You know you’re life better anyone, so get real with yourself and get to work!
Thanks for listening to my ramblings Have you been guilty of chasing money?
